Works in Progress

“A work of art was once a work in progress.”

Watercolour WIP

The migration of zebra and wildebeest includes crossing the Mara River – a truly terrifying experience that the Mara River crocodiles – giants of their own species – gorge and fatten from. For about an hour, around a hundred thousand beasts take the plunge and briefly leave themselves open to strong currents and behemoth crocodiles. It’s gut-wrenching to watch, but life must turn its wheels. I chose to bring this to life as a watercolour to celebrate one of the greatest animal shows on Earth.

Pastel WIP

Continuing my exploration of the rich tapestry of African cultures, I’ve created another piece for my African Ethiopian Tribal series, featuring a Hamas woman adorned with traditional mud braids and the natural smeared mud on her face. The intricate details of her hairstyle and facial decoration are where I find immense joy—the nuances truly make it a fulfilling artistic experience.

When striving for hyperrealism, capturing the essence of the subject is vital. A high-resolution photograph taken from the right perspective is crucial to achieving this. Unfortunately, many images provided by clients can be blurry or poorly angled, making it a challenge to translate important features accurately. These compromises can obscure vital characteristics, which I aim to preserve in my artworks. It’s in these details that the true spirit of the subject comes alive, and it is my mission to showcase their beauty and cultural significance through my pastel drawings.
